Can our 16 year old be emancipated if she is constantly in trouble?
Full Question:
Our 16-1/2 yr old daughter wants to leave home and live with her boyfriends family (whom I think is controlling and abusive). She has been in so much trouble this year w/school, law, drugs, etc. and counseling, juvenile detention has had no effect. I told her if she was to leave, that we could not be responsible for her in any way, shape or form. There would be no money, food, clothing, bailing her out of jail, lawyers, medical insurance. NOTHING I have to think of the rest of the family at this point. I don't want her to leave but she is disrupting our home life and I can't risk losing everything we worked so hard for to one of her escapades. I need to know what a Parent's Rights are in emancipation and if she chooses to leave; what are we legally responsible for her until 18. Her Dad is currently serving HER 48 Hours of Community Service because of excessive truancy, because we as parents we were told we are still responsible.
