How do I get the title to a used car with handwritten bill of sale?
Full Question:
My son bought a car from his girlfriend's mom. It isn't running, has sat in the parking lot of their apartment for at least 6 months. He has a hand written bill of sale, but the mom never could find the Title. Now he needs to fix it, use it and get a Title. How can he get one, which form should I order for him? The car isn't worth much, he paid $200 for it. Should he try for an abandoned vehicle Title?

Answer:
The Texas state department of motor vehicles states that if you bought a vehicle and did not receive the title, you should allow 20 business days to process a title application. If you have not received your title within 20 business days, call the department at (512) 465-7611. If there is a lien on the vehicle, the lienholder will receive the title. The lien would have to be paid in order for you to receive title.
County tax offices provide most vehicle title and registration services, including vehicle title transfers. You will need to submit a title application to the Nueces county tax office which services Robstown.
