Can an employee have a paid leave for voting on Election Day in Louisiana?
There is no specific state law in Louisiana regarding employee time off to vote. However, two statutes, La. R. S. 23:961 and La. R. S. 23:962, prohibit employers from taking adverse action against employees for engaging in political activities. This can be interpreted to mean that employers must also favorably consider their employees’ request for time off to vote the same as requests for time off for all other reasons.
