What will happen if I walk away from my mobile home?
Full Question:
Answer:
We cannot give legal advice. The following is not a substitute for the advice of a local attorney. But we hope the information will be useful.
First of all, as I understand it from your statement above, you OWN your mobile home - you are not making payments on it. That's good at least. If you just walk away from it (abandon it) when your lease expires, then the landowner will either take possession of it and dispose of it or sell it or remodel it and rent it out. The landowner may try to find you and ask you to pay the cost of removal and disposal of the mobile home. You may be responsible for this, depending on the lease. I assume you think there's no way to sell the mobile home for anything at this point. If there is, even to a junk yard, you should do that. At least if someone bought it for next to nothing, they would pay the cost to haul it away.
Based on what you said above, it sounds like you should not renew your lease. Surely you can rent a small apartment for 950 a month, and be much better off.
We wish you the best of luck in resolving your situation.
