What are the grounds for a restraining order?
Full Question:
Can I file a restraining order on my ex-husband of over two years for calling me and text messaging me? I've asked him several times in the past to leave me alone unless it involves an emergency with our teenage children which he has custody. He is causing me alot of stress. What can I do?

Answer:
If there is harrassment and threats that could be grounds for a restraining order. But if he is contacting you about the children or is not harrassing you probably not. Since you are the Mother and former wife and he is the Father, and former Husband, and you have a child together it is common to communicate and try to get along, especially for the benefit of the child. In fact, failure to do so could be grounds for modification of custody. Parents should both be civil to each other even if divorced. If he is not being civil, you might talk to him about it.
