Can I refuse to cooperate with a collection agency and request to deal with the original creditor?
Full Question:
If I don't have a contractual agreement with a debt collection company, representing an original creditor, and I inform them that I don't want to do business with them, do they then have a legal right to report me to the credit bureaus? I want to deal directly with the original creditor.

Answer:
The collection company would be acting as an agent of the creditor unless the company purchased the debt in which case they would be acting in their own name. Yes, they can make reports for creditor as their agent.
