My husband and I live separately. I filed for divorce a month back. I am having financial difficulties and need support. I would like to know if the court can order support for my son who lives with me before divorce is granted? We are residents of Virginia.

Answer:
Per Virginia Code Annotated 20-71:
“At any time before the trial, upon motion of the complainant, with notice to the defendant, the court may enter such temporary order as seems just, providing for the support of the neglected spouse or children, or both, pendente lite, and may punish for violation of the order as for contempt.”
