Is the length of my marriage going to be a factor in deciding who gets what property?
Full Question:
I've been married less than a year with our one year anniversary approaching in a few weeks. She came into the marriage with only a vehicle and some furniture. I owned several vehicles prior to the marriage, there is no real estate or biological children involved and no assets have been acquired while we have been married, with the exception of a years' worth of minimal contributions to my 401 k in which I have about $20k. Is this a situation where basically you "leave with what you came with" and am I in any danger of losing position if our marriage goes past the 1 year mark before I file any paperwork with the court system?
