How can paternal grandparents get visitation rights of a child, who is in the custody of maternal grandparents?
Full Question:
We are residents of Maryland and the paternal grandparents of our 9-year-old granddaughter. She now stays with her maternal grandparents. They are not allowing us to visit our grandchild due to some family discord. We are too intimate with our granddaughter. Is there any remedy available for us to have visitation rights?

Answer:
“An equity court may:
(1) consider a petition for reasonable visitation of a grandchild by a grandparent; and
(2) if the court finds it to be in the best interests of the child, grant visitation rights to the grandparent.”
The Maryland grandparental visitation statute provides that grandparents may petition for "reasonable visitation" and empowers equity courts to grant such petitions if grandparental visitation is in the best interests of the child, which has been given in Md. Code Ann., Fam. Law § 9-102, that is given below:
“An equity court may:
(1) consider a petition for reasonable visitation of a grandchild by a grandparent; and
(2) if the court finds it to be in the best interests of the child, grant visitation rights to the grandparent.”
