Full Question:
There is a lein on my home that was put on when the home was still owed by my mother, she had signed and put this property up for my son and his family when they refinanced their home. what does this mean for me now that i am the owner of this property. Could I lose my home if they can not keep up their house payments? I have been the owner for about 2 years now. The last time my mother helped them out was about 3 or 4 years ago.

Answer:
Please read the sale agreement. Did it state that you were to receive the property free and clear of all liens? Did you also obtain title insurance? If yes, contact the title insurance company -- title insurance is supposed to protect against such claims, including the costs of litigation.
