What Can I Do if the Airlines Damaged My Scooter?
Full Question:
Answer:
All damage claims should be filed in person with an AA representative prior to leaving the airport. Damage claims must be filed within 24 hours from the time the damaged article(s) was received if your itinerary was wholly within the U.S., Puerto Rico and/or the U.S. Virgin Islands. If the itinerary included international travel, damage claims must be filed within seven (7) days of receipt of the damaged article(s).
The damaged article(s) needs to be presented for inspection at the airport where AA personnel are responsible for the final resolution of your damage claim. However, the compensation that the airline owes you will vary depending on whether you were a passenger on a domestic or international flight.
Liability for loss, delay, or damage to baggage will be limited as indicated below, unless a higher valuation for checked baggage has been declared and additional charges paid at check-in. Excess valuation may not be declared on certain types of articles.
Liability for loss, delay or damage to baggage is limited to:
· Domestic travel - $3,300 USD per ticketed passenger
· International travel governed by the Warsaw Convention - $9.07 USD per lb up to $634.90 USD per bag
· International travel governed by the Montreal Convention - 1,131 SDR (Special Drawing Rights) per ticketed passenger
Baggage Liability Restrictions
· Maximum liability is not automatic - damage or loss value must be proven
· American Airlines does not assume liability for unsuitably packed items
· American Airlines does not assume liability for loss, damage or delay of baggage that may result from a security search conducted by any local, state, or federal agency
