My friend was under contract to buy a house he spent 20k in remodeling 10k in escrow. He backed out and wanted the escrow back. Now, they are suing him for 40k claiming he was rehabilitating the home without their consent, when the seller was practically dictating the construction! We can prove she was aware that remodeling was being done, but what is the punishment for perjury in Texas since she claimed she had no idea?

The following is a TX statute:
§ 37.02. PERJURY.
(a) A person commits an offense if,
with intent to deceive and with knowledge of the statement's
meaning:
(1) he makes a false statement under oath or swears to
the truth of a false statement previously made and the statement is
required or authorized by law to be made under oath; or
(2) he makes a false unsworn declaration under Chapter
132, Civil Practice and Remedies Code.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
