Does artificial insemination affect my right as a father especially when I include my name as the father of the child on the birth certificate?
Full Question:
We were a barren couple up until five months ago. We were told that artificial insemination might help us conceive. Thankfully my wife was able to conceive through the artificial insemination. We are expecting a healthy baby in another 4 months. Does artificial insemination affect my right as a father especially when I include my name as the father of the child on the birth certificate?

Answer:
“***
(f) (1) If the mother was married at the time of either conception or birth, or between conception and birth, the name of the husband shall be entered on the certificate as the father of the child, unless it is established by law that he is not the father of the child.

Also, within § 22-9A-7 in clause (g), it is given that artificial insemination will not deter any right of the father to include his name in the birth certificate as long as the condition in clause (f) sub-clause (1) is fulfilled. It reads:
(f) (1) If the mother was married at the time of either conception or birth, or between conception and birth, the name of the husband shall be entered on the certificate as the father of the child, unless it is established by law that he is not the father of the child.

(g) The birth certificate of a child born to a married woman as a result of artificial insemination, with consent of her husband, shall be completed in accordance with subdivision (1) of subsection (f).
