Are alimony payments a monthly obligation or weekly?
Full Question:
The temporay court order states that alimony will be paid on the 16th of each month in 2006, the permanent court order of January 2007, states alimony will now be paid on the 1st of each month. My ex claims he does not owe for the entire month of January, rolling over December 16th 06' payment to the 2nd week of January 07'. I was under the impression that alimony payments were a monthly commitment not a weekly basis.

Answer:
Generally, an order will be effective when entered and will not be retroactive unless expressly stated to be. A temporary order will typically remain effective until revoked/expired or replaced by a permanent order. I suggest you consult with a local attorney to review the language of the orders and documents involved.
