Am I liable for the rent even if I moved out by the first if I did not give a 30 day notice?
Full Question:
I signed a 1 year lease with a landlord from December 2006-December 2007. I no longer was on a lease; it was month to month. I did not sign another lease agreement. I moved out of the house January 1, 2008. Am I responsible for paying that months rent? I signed an agreement lease at another home proving I didn't live there.

Answer:
Mississippi statutes require a month-to-month residential tenant to give 30 days' notice to legally terminate the tenancy. If proper notice isn't given, the tenant may be liable for the month's rent, unless the tenant can prove that the landlord waived notice.
