Is there a law that allows an adult to remove themselves from a family?
Full Question:
Is there a law that allows an adult (over the age of 18) to remove themselves from a family legally? I thought emancipation was the way to do that but everything I read on emancipation is related to minors. I want to legally remove myself from my family.

Answer:
Emancipation is the process in which a minor is declared free the custody and control of his/her parents. Irt is applicable to minors, not adults. In some cases, an adult has a family member appointed as a guardian or conservator. There are state statutory procedures that may be followed to terminate a guardianship. A person may also disinherit family members in a will to ensure they don't become unintended beneficiaries of their estate. However, I am unaware of any laws providing for a "divorce" from family members.
