Am I still obligated to pay child support for my daughter who is 18 but still in school?
Full Question:
My daughter is 18 years old, as long as she attends school I am obligated to pay child support. She is pregnant and her baby is due next month. Am I still required to pay support for an 18 year old 'child' who will be a single parent? Is it possible to emancipate my 18 year old daughter who will graduate from high school in June?

Answer:
A judge may grant the emancipation of a minor in Oregon upon a determination that it's in the minor's best interests. Considerations, among others, include the ability of the minor to be self-supporting and live independently from the parents.
Unlike marriage, getting pregnant and having children does not mean that a minor is emancipated. The reasoning is that when a minor marries the spouse (rather than the parents) will support the minor. By contrast in most cases, a minor who is pregnant (or recently gave birth) will continue to depend on parents or legal guardians for financial support.
