If I become emancipated will I still receive my survivor benifits?
Full Question:
I am seventeen years old and am currently living with my parents. I am graduating from high school this year (a year early) and I'm considering filing for emancipation. I receive survivor benifits and my question is this, if I become emancipated will I still receive my survivor benifits. My mother and step father and very controling and some times abusive and won't take legal action if I leave but refuse to give up my survivor benifits. Can I force them to give them to me.

Answer:
Whether the survivor benefits will still be payable to you after emancipation depends on the type of benefits and the terms governing them, as terms vary by type of benefit. I suggest calling the entity/agency that pays the benefits.
