How can I access my file that my attorney has?

I have paid my lawyer for discovery but when I ask for the discovery package, I am denied. What can I do?

Answer:
An attorney is often allowed to place what's referred to as an "attorney's lien" on a clients file if theere is an outstanding bill for services unpaid. Otherwise, the client is entitled to a return of the file when representation ends, but may be charged reasonable copying fees. If the client pays the attorney's bill in full and is denied return of the file, it may be necessary to file a complaint with the local bar asociation or get assistance from the court.
