Full Question:
I live in Michigan, and I am being stalked by my ex-boyfriend. Last night I saw him standing near my garden patch at around 11 pm. I want to move out from my current residence and go to another sub-division without his knowledge. But my lease period is not yet over. Can I end my lease before the end date? What steps do I take for the same?

Answer:
The procedure for availing this facility starts with providing notice to your landlord that you seeking an early release from the rental obligation under MCL 554.601b. Along with this written notice, you need to provide a copy of the document that shows you are at risk if you do not move out. The document could me a personal protection order, a police report or even a report from a qualified third party stating the situation.
After due notice is served you are obliged to pay the current month’s rent along with the next month’s rent. The release from the lease would be effective from the day you move out.
