Can I get emancipated from my parents and leave school?

I am 14 years old and have been into gaming professionally since I was 11 years old. I live with my parents in San Francisco. I go to a private school and I don’t like it there. I want to quit school and focus on gaming for now and my parents are dead against it. I have heard that I can get emancipated from my parents in California because I am 14 years old now. Can I get an emancipation and leave school?

As regards to opting out of school, you cannot leave school per the California's Compulsory Education Law, Education Code Section 48200-48208. The law clearly states that all students are required to attend school full-time until the age of 16. Students who wish to leave school on attaining the age of 16, they have to clear California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) or obtain consent from their parents. If you cannot obtain either of the above-mentioned conditions, you will have stay in school until you turn 18.
